There’s a strong possibility that Apple is working on a smartwatch. The basis for this is Apple’s filing of a trademark application for “iWatch”. That only means that whatever apple is designing and hopefully planning on bringing to the masses, it’s a smartwatch. These kinds of watches have gained popularity with the rise of smarphone users. Hence, there are smartwatches like the Sony SmartWatch, which is in fact now on version 2, the I’m Watch, the Pebble and the MetaWatch, just to name a few.
Smartwatches are extension of your phones and functions as display for notifications or acts as remote control. They can display messages, emails or notifications of your smartphone apps, and in most cases, they come in with built-in apps that works within the restrictions that a watch brings.
Going back to apple’s iWatch, no one knows for certain what it looks like or what functions it will have at launch. And just like any other Apple product, people like to imagine how they would look like. A post on Dribble, a site for designers, shows a concept iWatch, complete with high resolution renders and images. It is actually a nice-looking design, but I am doubtful of its usefulness if ever it becomes an actual product.
Here is the concept design of the iWatch.
The design of the iWatch shown above is pretty and I would actually buy one if it is real but I would think about the risk of getting scratches on that device, not to mention the discomfort I would feel using it. It has hard edges all over and operating the watch would seem unnatural since the display is curved. In any case, this is just a concept design and I imagine Apple coming up with a smartwatch that’s much simpler. Here are the other shots of the iWatch design concept if you want to see more.
