OnePlus X Announced: Specs, Price, Photos

OnePlus, the company that asks phone users to “never settle”, has found some success with the OnePlus One and the OnePlus 2 handsets.  Though not wildly successful, the two earlier Android phones received good reviews, although there were some complaints from owners of the phones as to build quality and customer service.  OnePlus has a unique marketing strategy, opting for an invite system instead of going through the ordinary channels of commerce.  It has proven to be successful in the past so the company is using the same invite system.

The latest addition to the OnePlus line of Android phones is the OnePlus X.  It’s not a successor to the OnePlus 2 as it is said to be a different line altogether.  Its key difference with the previous models is the premium, polished design.  The press photos of the phone show that the OnePlus X is indeed well-designed, although one can easily claim that it is inspired by Apple’s iPhone.

In terms of hardware specs, the OnePlus X is not a flagship killer, neither is it a flagship phone itself.  The OnePlus X packs a 5-inch Full HD AMOLED display and is powered by a Snapdragon 801 processor assisted by 3GB of RAM.  It has 16GB of onboard storage which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD slot.  Its battery is at 2,525 mAh and it has dual-SIM functionality.   Mobile photographers will be pleased with the OnePlus X since it features a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera.  The OnePlus X runs on Android 5.1.1 with OxygenOS on top.

There are two variants of the OnePlus X – the Onyx with black glass backing and a Ceramic variant.  The Onyx is priced at $249 while the ceramic variant is priced at £269.

The OnePlus X will be available in November 5 and will first launch in Europe and India, then in the US.  Pricing and availability in the Philippines is still unknown.
