The internet is currently flooded with rumors and alleged leaks on Apple’s next phone, the iPhone 8. It can be overwhelming to read these articles so you might want to stay out for now. All things iPhone 8 are just rumors anyway until it is announced by Apple. Heck, even the name iPhone 8 is just a rumor as of now. However, some of these rumors are based on something and we have to consider that in the past, some of these rumors turned out to be true.
iPhone 8 Design
In case you didn’t know, the iPhone 8 is the 10th anniversary iPhone so we hope it will be a special iteration and that Apple will not disappoint. Rumors point to a redesigned iPhone with glass body and an edge-to-edge OLED display with no home button. This will not be a world-first design as the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and even the Galaxy S8 before that, already featured edge-to edge display. Some other Android phone manufacturers have also released bezel-less models. This will however be a first for Apple.
From the countless renders of the iPhone 8, the consensus for now is that the iPhone 8 will look like the one in this photo.
From the photo above, we can see an iPhone that has no top and bottom bezels although a part of the top bezel is still retained to house the front facing camera and other sensors. The home button will probably be built in to the software similar to how Android does it and the Touch ID sensor may also be incorporated in the display as well. Some say, however, that the Touch ID may be replaced with a facial recognition technology.
The iPhone 8 with an actual protective case has been leaked as well and the photo is shown below.
As to the display size, the iPhone 8 is heavily rumored to pack a 5.8-inch display with 5.15 inches of usable area as the other parts will be used for virtual buttons that will replace the existing home button. In terms of actual phone size, the iPhone 8 may be closer to the 4.7 iPhone 7. Shown below is the iPhone 8 flanked by the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
The body of the iPhone 8 could be made of glass materials instead of the aluminum ones used on previous and current iPhone. Color options of the iPhone 8 could be gold, silver, and black.
iPhone 8 dummy units have emerged online and this video features one in detail.
iPhone 8 Features
The iPhone 8 is expected to be better than the current iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. We know it will be faster and more powerful. The rumored processor on the iPhone 8 is a 10-nanometer A11 chip that will be both faster and more efficient. This chip could also include features like induction-based wireless charging.
In terms of camera features, the iPhone 8’s camera could replicate the dual-camera system on the iPhone 7 Plus and improve on it. Rumors suggest Apple will use a vertical rear camera instead of the horizontal one used on current models and a dual-camera setup for the front-facing FaceTime camera with 3D sensing capabilities.
Like the iPhone 7, the iPhone 8 is expected to be water resistant, but it may have an improved IP68 water resistance rating.
iPhone 8’s Price
Apple will still probably sell the standard 4.7 and 5.5-inch versions, with the new 5.8-inch version being a premium offering. For pricing, there are reports that the iPhone 8 will be priced at close to $1,000, or about Php 50,000 in Philippines peso. This is way more expensive than the current iPhones.
Apple will be revealing the iPhone 8 soon, most likely this September. It shouldn’t be long before we see the actual iPhone 8 in the hands of Apple CEO Tim Cook.
