Apple is arguably the benchmark for smartphones and the same still holds true with the recent announcement of the iPhone X. Phone makers will now try to copy or even exceed what Apple is offering with the iPhone X and Chines brands are the most notorious when it comes to this strategy. And no one can blame them because the strategy works.
Huawei is one of the companies on the heels of Apple and if sales volume is anything to go by, the Chinese phone maker is on its way to being recognized as one of the top phone brands in the world. It’s not a top phone brand in the Philippines but elsewhere in the world, and specifically in China, the brand is big.
Back to the topic on strategy, after Apple announced the new iPhones in September, Huawei came out with press releases, promising to unveil a “real AI phone”. This is a jab at Apple, obviously, but at the time no details were known about Huawei’s next offering or how it will translate its claim into reality.
Now, we have a few details as leaks of the Huawei Mate 10 have started to come out. A photo of what’s claimed to be the Mate 10 Pro has been leaked by Evan Blass who, if you follow tech and gadget news, is a prolific leaker of new phones. The Huawei Mate 10 Pro has a three-camera setup, it appears and this is most likely how the company will make real AI possible, or how its phone can be better than the iPhone X. The Mate 10 Pro is said to have an edge-to-edge display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and the three cameras will include a 12- and 20-megapixel dual-camera setup on the back, and a single, 8-megapixel front-facing camera.
Huawei recently released a short promo for the Mate 10 Pro, claiming that it is an “intelligent machine.” On October 16, the date Huawei is expected to unveil the new phone, including the standard Mate 10 and a Mate 10 Lite, we will know if Huawei can offer substance to its claim.
