GoPro HERO6 Black Announced with 4K Video and Better Features

GoPro_HERO6_PhilippinesGoPro has a new action camera called the HERO6 Black.  It’s an attempt by the company to stave off decline as it faces stiff completion from other action camera makers.  Over time, GoPro has become an expensive option considering the much cheaper options available in the market.  So what features does the HERO6 Black offer?

Hero6 Black Specs and Features

The GoPro HERO6 Black is the best GoPro camera to date, on paper at least.  The HERO6 Black is a 4K60 camera that is fully waterproof up to 33 feet and features a ruggedized body.  The good thing about it being ruggedized is it does not require an accessory shell.  The HERO6 Black captures 4K resolution videos and 1080p240 videos as well.

The HERO6 Black has 5GHz WiFi for faster transfers from camera to phone.  The HERO6 Black also has GPS, and accelerometer, and gyroscope, along with Bluetooth.

The GoPro HERO6 Black is expected to produce better videos and better photos.  GoPro says the HERO6 Black has a “dramatically improved” dynamic range, better low-light performance and the “most advanced stabilization” offered to-date.  Video should be smoother and photos sharper.  The GoPro HERO6 Black also has RAW and HDR photo modes and a new touch-zoom system.

The HERO6 Black uses a custom-designed GP1 processor that makes these new features possible.

QuikStories

The GoPro HERO6 Black has a QuikStories feature.   Using the new GP1 processor, the HERO6 Black will use computer vision and machine learning to identify scenes from your recordings.  It will then automatically create a summary video of the highlights.  This however needs the help of the smartphone app.

Accessories

The GoPro HERO6 Black will work with existing mounts, so those who have previously bought GoPro mounts should have no problem using the HERO6 Black with those.  The company also said that the HERO6 Black will be compatible with its Karma drone mount.

GoPro also announced the Shorty, a selfie-stick that also acts as a tripod.  There’s also what the company calls the Handler, a floating handgrip with quick-release mount for use in the water.  Finally, the company announced the Bite Mount + Floaty.  It combines a flexible bite mount with a spot that’s designed to be easy to identify from a distance.

GoPro HERO6 Black Price

The GoPro HERO6 Black is priced at $499, which converts to about P25,000 in Philippine peso.  Taking taxes and other charges into account, the price in the Philippines could come to around P28,000.
