Android KitKat Update Now Available for Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Z1 and Z1 Compact

If you own Sony Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 or an Xperia Z1 Compact, you can update your devices to Android 4.4 KitKat.  Sony just announced the rollout so you if have not received an update notice on your phone yet, you should manually check it out now.

If the KitKat update is not available yet for your device, know that the update depends on your location and your carrier.  But don’t fret, it will still eventually become available on your device. Sony says that Android 4.4 KitKat will soon come with the Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z, as well as the Xperia T2 Ultra, E1 and M2.

Sony’s Android KitKat update brings an improved status bar and quick-settings menu and updated stock and media apps, among others.   According to Sony, these are the things are included in the KitKat update:

  • Google’s Android 4.4; KitKat as standard – bringing performance & UI optimization
  • We’ve added our tweaked Status Bar and Quick Settings.  Now more intuitive and customisable (and pretty easy on the eye)… cleaned up to ensure you only get the notifications you really need
